Lo Shu (洛书)

Numbers structure the model; they are not standalone luck charms.

Definition

The Lo Shu is the 3×3 square of numbers 1–9 with 5 in the centre, rhymed as ‘nine on the head, one on the foot.’ Flying-star practice maps stars and palaces onto this grid.

How to Check

  1. Draw the square and align north with your plan.
  2. Do not mix Lo Shu palaces with Hetu generate-number pairs.

Classical Basis

Han sources record the pattern; later compass arts adopted it. Calendar Tai Sui is a different tradition.

Application

  • ·Period 9 places purple 9 in the central palace.

Common Effects

  • ·Reversing the square flips directional readings.
  • ·Confusing Lo Shu with calendar gods misstates both systems.

Remedy Direction

Keep one reference square; verify software after period updates.

Caveats & Debate

Historians debate the legend; practitioners use the fixed later pattern.
