Form School (形势派)

Teachers may say 形势派 rather than ‘Form School.’

Definition

Form School (峦头派) judges feng shui from visible landforms, roads, water, and building outlines. Practitioners talk about dragon veins, protective sand, water mouths, and form sha such as road rush or sky-crack gaps between towers.

How to Check

  1. Photograph street views from each main window before debating star charts.
  2. Separate measurable issues (wind, noise, glare) from symbolic sha names.

Classical Basis

The Zang Shu and dragon classics shaped this vocabulary; cities often map arterials and towers onto older mountain-and-water images.

Application

  • ·Site review should start outdoors even for high-rise units.

Common Effects

  • ·Star-chart tweaks rarely fix real road rush or wind-tunnel flats.
  • ·Chasing symbolic ‘dragons’ can distract from drainage and structural safety.

Remedy Direction

Improve comfort with screens, planting, and insulation; let symbolic cures follow the same geometry.

Caveats & Debate

Urban form reading is subjective—keep photos and notes.
